A modern family moment

This shot was taken this summer at Nathan Philips’ Square in front of our City Hall, here in Toronto.
The family was sitting under an elevated concrete walkway which both sheltered them from the harsh f16 bright sun, and acted as a large reflector and bathed them in wonderful light.
But even more than that, what attracted me to the scene was the family’s intense interest in whatever the central figure had on her cellphone screen. I realized that sharing a family moment today often takes a far different form from what we did when I was growing up.
